The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) briefed members of Parliament today that Eskom is technically insolvent and will cease to exist at current trajectories by April 2019. The news follows remarks by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, who said yesterday that Eskom is in deep trouble… financially and operationally.  Davies added that impending announcements will show that the government is serious on Eskom and ready to take some tough decisions. He did not, however, provide more details. During his State of the Nation address last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa told the nation of plans to unbundle the embattled power utility which has seen its debt balloon from R380-billion at the beginning of last year to over R419-billion.
