Pakistan says it has conducted a training launch of the Shaheen II,  surface-to-surface ballistic missile, which it said was capable of delivering conventional and nuclear weapons at a range of up to 1 500 miles. Pakistan and India remain at loggerheads over Kashmir and both are armed with nuclear weapons. Lately, Pakistan has signalled a willingness to open talks with India as Prime Minister Modi appears set to return to power in New Delhi. In a statement the Pakistani military said, the Shaheen II was a capable missile which fully met Pakistan’s strategic needs towards the maintenance of deterrence and stability in the region.
