Fifty prisoners in Saudi Arabia have been let out on temporary release to take part in this year’s hajj pilgrimage. The kingdom's General Directorate of Prisons allowed 50 prisoners and around 30 of their family members to take part in the symbolic 'stoning the devil' ritual which forms part of the annual Haj pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah. The prisoners' day release comes as part of a wider initiative to help rehabilitate lower risk offenders and help reintegrate them into society.
