The United Nations Security Council has expressed its deepest concern about violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, where about 400 000 Rohingya Muslims have been forced to flee. In a statement the fifteen-member council called for immediate steps to stop the excessive use of violence against innocent civilians. Meanwhile, U.N. Secretary General, Antonnio Guterres urged the government of Myanmar to intervene sooner than later to end the violence.
