The United Nations has finally folded its peacekeeping mission in Haiti after 13 years and replaced with a United Nations police force. The new U.N. mission will focus on justice, human rights and development. The U.N. peacekeeping mission was dogged by controversies, including the introduction of cholera to the island and sexual abuse claims. Haiti’s police force mow stands at 15 000 officers, including rapid response personnel, up from 2 000 in 2004 when the U.N. mission began.
