Jordan’s King Abdullah has formally declared an end to the 25-year-old LAND deal between Jordan and Israel. The deal allowed Israeli farmers to cultivate land along the border between the two countries. Most Jordanians saw this as a humiliation that prolonged Israeli "occupation" of Jordanian territory. Under the 1994 Jordan-Israel peace treaty, two territories straddling the border were recognized as under Jordanian sovereignty, but with special provisions allowing Israeli farmers to work the land and visitors to tour the Isle of Peace Park in the area.
