Several villagers in eastern Afghanistan said the recent withdrawal of foreign troops has left them exposed to militant attacks. In Nangarhar province, east of the Afghan capital Kabul, two US bases are now occupied by Afghan forces, following the departure of American troops earlier this year. Living in the shadow of a US military base had long provided protection to villagers in eastern Afghanistan, but locals now say the withdrawal of foreign troops has left them exposed to militant attacks.
